Namaste!
{nah-mas-tay} / Sanskrit / My soul recognises your soul. I honour the love, light, beauty, truth and kindness within you because it is also within me. In sharing these things, we are united. We are the same. We are one.
The Rubbish Artist
** Priyanka being my “proper” name, my creative self has always been BUCHU – a playful name given to me by my Grandpa for my button nose. THE-RUBBISH-ARTIST for my love of working with reclaimed materials seemed the solution to escape explaining the above but I might’ve complicated it further. Oh, well.
About
I am a British mixed-media artist of Nepalese heritage and spent my teenage years in a school in India. My degree (and a half!) and training has also been an infusion of traditional and contemporary techniques. This amalgamation of cultural influences and experiences is reflected in my original, varied portfolio.
I am also a mother of two beautiful girls, a multitasking real-life superhero, a feminist, a keen runner and always on the lookout for an adventure.
My time is spent making beautiful things. I love to draw, paint, spend time with my girls, snuggle up with a good book, be in nature especially with my dog Samson, travel to new places and chase sunsets!
LIFE is what inspires my work. Be it time in nature which I seek daily, humour in everyday life or interpretations of the human experience. I work instinctively using my imagination and “feel”, utilizing colour and texture to enhance my vision.
I also take on bespoke commissions on request but require the freedom to interpret the subject matter and deliver it in my own unique style. (A realisation quite early on in life that I would therefore never make a good Graphic Designer with my rejection of norms and my quest for freedom artistically and otherwise!!)
Besides making my own work, I also founded and run THE CRAFTY CAT ART CLUB.
I teach ART in the community to adults and children of all ages, abilities, shapes, sizes and I love being able to contribute to and play my part in society.
My superpower is being able to connect with people and to be able to create art with almost anything. I enjoy being able to share that knowledge with the people I teach. I also go into schools and similar settings to inspire, do live demonstrations and share my passion and knowledge.
Being a people’s person, I take delight in making COMMUNITY ART with and for the community which has led me to collaborate in different settings with some wonderful people.
I strongly believe art has the power to bring people together. Art breaks the barriers of language amongst other things and universally has the power to educate people and start conversations about important things.
An environmentalist at heart, I firmly believe in “creating SOMETHING from NOTHING.”
I have produced a lot of art using waste material. I have created several sculptures and other artwork using household waste and my latest personal collection of work has been using waste wood and wood products from my local community saving it from going to landfill.
